Support GWU

The Next Chapter

It began with a vision, the dream of a place where people could grow intellectually in an environment of faith. A high school became a junior college, the junior college became a four-year institution, and the four-year institution grew into one of the region’s most comprehensive Christian universities.

As an alumnus, parent, or friend, you are a vital part of Gardner-Webb’s story. You exemplify the faith, service, and leadership we hope our students will emulate in their homes, workplaces, churches, and communities.

Today GWU stands on the threshold of our next great chapter, one your generosity will help write. Together we will propel Gardner-Webb toward an exciting future as one of the nation’s preeminent Christian universities.

Be part of a Presidential Society

The President’s Roundtable ($1,000,000 or more)

The most prestigious donor level, the President’s Round Table is a spirited and dedicated group of supporters made up of alumni, parents, and friends whose commitment to Gardner-Webb ensures the University remains an exceptional institution of higher learning. Their philanthropic leadership helps Gardner-Webb be attentive to students’ needs while continuing to prepare for the future of the University.

The Elliott Society ($500,000 to $999,999)

The Elliott’s Society is named in honor of Dr. Phil Elliott, President of Gardner-Webb from 1943-1961, and his legendary leadership and accomplishments. Members of this society continue to fulfill Dr. Elliott’s commitment to service through lifetime support of $500,000 or more.

The Gardner Society ($250,000 to $499,999)

The Gardner Society honors the generous involvement by the University’s namesake, Governor O. Max Gardner and his wife Fay Webb Gardner. In 1942, Franklin D. Roosevelt wrote to Governor Gardner after hearing the news of his remarkable support and said, “This is an act of faith in the future which should be an inspiration to the friends of education everywhere.” The Gardner Society members continue to inspire friends of education through their lifetime support of $250,000 or more.

The Cantrell Society ($100,000 to $249,999)

The Cantrell Society was established in memory of Reverend J. R. Cantrell, President of Boiling Springs Junior College from 1939-1943. Reverend Cantrell led the institution during a period of great campus growth, capital improvements and fundraising efforts. These advances are currently being carried out through the dedicated of members of the Cantrell Society and their lifetime support of over $100,000.

The Wall Society ($50,000 to $99,999)

Dr. Xeno Wall served as President from 1930-1932 and was also the pastor of First Baptist Church in Shelby. In 1926 Dr. Wall presented a resolution to transition Gardner-Webb from a High School to a Junior College. During that meeting he said, “Brethren, the leaders cannot go alone. You have to go with them and give each year in support of the school.” Members of the Wall Society honor Dr. Wall’s commitment to supporting leaders through lifetime gifts of $50,000 or more.

The Huggins Society ($25,000 to $49,999)

In honor of the visionary leadership of Professor J.D. Huggins, the Huggins Society recognizes lifetime support of $25,000 and above. Professor Huggins served as the first principal of Boiling Springs High School and held an unshakeable belief in the future of a great Christian institution.
